Skycast Solutions Launches next Generation Inflight Entertainment Tablet with Alaska Airlines

Over 7,000 Windows-based devices now deployed

SEATTLE – March 27, 2015Skycast Solutions today announced a successful launch of their cutting-edge Windows-based portable inflight entertainment tablet on Alaska Airlines. Skycast and Microsoft partnered on the product’s development.

The Windows device features the 8” Toshiba Encore 2 tablet running Windows embedded 8.1 Industry with a fast Intel® Atom™ processor and a lightweight security shell/stand that together weigh less than one pound.  Alaska Airlines offers the tablet for free to passengers in the First Class cabin and for rental to passengers in coach.  The airline offers the tablet on most routes over 3.5 hours.

In addition to a wide array of entertainment offerings such as early-window movies, new releases, TV, music, digital magazines and an “XBOX Game Center,” the device includes robust capabilities including:

  • Seamless Wi-Fi access (where applicable)
  • ‘One touch’ integration with Alaska’s onboard server streaming content
  • Simultaneous multiple screen operation
  • Sophisticated usage analytics reporting via Microsoft’s Azure Data Factory
  • Privacy settings that ensure user sessions are cleared with every use
  • Complex security configurations for content protection

Skycast and Microsoft tapped Ratio – a leading multi-screen agency with deep Windows 8 expertise – to develop the user friendly user interface and configure the tablet for the particular requirements of inflight entertainment.  It was designed to be easily updated in terms of content and software.
